Earthquake

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government had announced that it would hold a public vote from April 3 to May 15, 2026, to select an easy-to-understand name for seismic-sensing circuit breakers in order to encourage their installation.
We are pleased to announce that, following a large number of votes received from the public, the name for the seismic-sensing circuit breaker has been decided as follows.

Voting Results

Total votes

45,064 votes

(Confirmed) GraPita Switch

28,269 votes

Electrical Fire Stopper

13,111 votes

Fire Zero Breaker

3,684 votes

Going forward, we will leverage the “Gurapita Switch” brand name to promote the widespread adoption of seismic circuit breakers and advance efforts to prevent fires caused by earthquakes directly beneath the capital and other similar events.
Please note that anyone is free to use the name “Gurapita Switch.”

  • Example of use: GraPita Switch (seismic circuit breaker)

What is Gurapita Switch?

“When the ground starts shaking from an earthquake, it cuts off the power immediately”—this is a simple way to describe the role of a seismic circuit breaker. Specifically, it detects shaking of magnitude 5 or higher and cuts off the power supply to the interior of a building, protecting Tokyo residents from electrical fires.
