Subsidizing renewable energy power generation businesses in island regions

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is pleased to announce that it will be launching a new subsidy program for power generation businesses that install renewable energy power generation facilities in Tokyo’s island areas, based on the amount of electricity generated by the source, in order to promote the spread of renewable energy in Tokyo’s island areas and to realize the goal of becoming a “zero-emission island.”

1 Business Overview

(1)Eligible projects

Initiative to introduce FIT-eligible power sources to business establishments located in Tokyo’s islands

(2)Recipients of the grant

Private businesses (private companies, educational institutions, public interest foundations, medical corporations, social welfare corporations, etc.)

(3)Amount of electricity used as the basis for calculating subsidies

The amount of electricity that is certified as a source of power under the FIT scheme among power generation projects that are started through subsidized projects

(4)Amount of Grant

For projects selected in fiscal year 2025, the amount of the subsidy will be calculated by multiplying the amount of electricity used as the basis for calculating the subsidy by 12 yen per kilowatt-hour.

(5)Main requirements for grant funding

  • The business must commence new power generation based on a business plan that has been certified under the FIT system, using any of the renewable energy power generation facilities.
  • The power source subject to the FIT system must begin operation in or after fiscal year 2025.
  • The amount of electricity generated by power sources covered by the FIT system can be proven.  etc.

The application form will be posted on the Cool Net Tokyo website on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Please download the designated form, fill out the application form, and submit it to the application reception desk during the application period.
